NBA ACTION
Yesterday’s Record ATS: 0-1
Cumulative Season Record ATS: 17-7
Today’s Games (for reading purposes only):
NEW ORLEANS* (+6.5) over MIAMI
This will be no pushover for the Heat and the lean is to the Hornets. Chris Paul will be on a mission and he has a nice running mate in Trevor Ariza to rely on this season. Jersey guy David West is undersized, but he will be able to push Bosh around down low. Heat are learning about each other, but will need to play here. NEW ORLEANS, 95-94
MEMPHIS (+5.5) over PHOENIX*
Whole new look for the Suns and they could have trouble adapting to each other. When you hear a guy like Nash say before the season that one of the strengths of the team will be chemistry, it’s a huge hint that he is worried about the talent. Grizz have the right tools with Mike Conley, O.J. Mayo, and Zack Randolph and Pau’s younger brother Mark Gasol is getting better like fine wine. MEMPHIS, 109-102

2-Year-Olds, Turf
9-SOLDAT got an idiot ride in the Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont in his last start. If they didn’t want to win a race, then the rider rode him perfectly putting him a bunch of lengths behind a slow pace on a soft course, moving widest of all on the turn. He showed good sprinter’s speed in the first two starts of his career, then stretched out on grass to break his maiden around two turns in a stakes race at Saratoga. Nice. 10-MADMAN DIARIES has never been on grass, never been beyond 6 furlongs. Which is why he has a great shot! If they can rate and win at 6f, they can go-go-go one mile. 13-PLUCK belongs and should have plenty of energy in the stretch drive. Tough post, but not impossible.

Sprint
3-WISE DAN has had only four lifetime starts and no Beyer figure higher than 97. Check back after this today. He had no right to get up in time from where he was positioned near the inside at Keeneland last time, where the stretch run is short. 10-RILEY TUCKER and 11-ATTABOY ROY both like Churchill Downs. Riley Tucker is 8-for-10 in the money this year, Attaboy Roy 5-for-6 in the money this year.

Turf Sprint
There’s a Turf Sprint? WTF are they doing this for? Turf sprints rhyme with duck and whoever invented them needs to be horsewhipped. Just for fun, a short-cut class call, out of the Grade 1 stakes in Canada: 7-BRIDGETOWN, 11-GRAND ADVENTURE, with 5-SILVER TIMBER coming late as usual.
Exacta Box: 7-11-5

7th Churchill Downs - 3:55 pm
Juvenile
8-MURJAN is 30-1 because he raced in Peru. But he’s a Kentucky-bred by Bertrando, who won this race, out of a Tabasco Cat mare. He was born to run at Churchill Downs. The two favorites, 7-UNCLE MO and 2-BOYS AT TOSCONOVA, should run very well.
Exacta Box: 8-7-2

8th Churchill Downs - 4:40 pm
Mile (Turf)
10-GOLDIKOVA isn’t the kind of horse to bet hard-earned money against. 4-COURT VISION has done a Lukas since going from Bill Mott to Rick Dutrow. By Gulch, he has shortened up from long grass races to one-mile grass races, like Gulch shortened up from long dirt races to dirt sprints after Lukas took over for Leroy Jolley. 6-PACO BOY was only a half-length behind Goldikova in France in his last start and is 11-for-22 lifetime.
Daily Double: 10 / 3-6-8
Pick Four: 10 / 3-6-8 / 8 / 12
--------------------------------------
9th Churchill Downs - 5:20 pm
Dirt Mile
3-AIKENITE is 50-1 and shouldn’t be. He’s a one-turn closer in a one-turn race with lots of early speed. 6-GAYEGO was favored in the BC Sprint last year, closed well for fourth. 8-CROWN OF THORNS has the form. Switching from fake dirt to real dirt is the question mark.
Exacta Box: 3-6-8
Pick Three: 3-6-8 / 8 / 12

10th Churchill Downs - 6:00 pm
Turf
Tell trainer Sir Michael Stoute to go stick his 7-5 odds on the 3-yo winner of the Arc De Triomphe, Workforce. This guy has burned more chalk in the Breeders’ Cup than Brit flags in Boston, circa 1776. Bounce-bounce-bounce. The race is begging to be stolen, and who better than a jockey named Buick? 4-DEBUSSY beat Gio Ponti in the Arlington Million, tuned up October 16 in a loss at Newmarket.

Classic
We had Zenyatta last year. This time? Nice story if she wins, hats off and all that. But the rats are really in the trap now, talking about history and greatest horse ever and blah-blah-blah. Means nothing. The sport is dying and she’s retiring after this. Ain’t nothing 20-for-20 can do for horse racing when the horse isn’t leaving the barn afterwards. Nothing. Zero. Zip. Nada. And, she’s not in a safe place. 12-LOOKIN AT LUCKY can track her from that post every step of the way and keep her inside for longer than Mike Smith wants to be. Also, from post 8, she may not be able to get to the rail and save as much ground as she normally does. After the Preakness, Bob Baffert wanted to have a horse left so he skipped the Belmont Stakes with Lookin’ At Lucky. He’s got one. Belmont Stakes: Irrelevant. Lookin’ At Lucky: Relevant.
Exacta Wheel: 12-All
