SUPER BOWL TAKES FROM THE LOCAL SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT MEDIA
Written by: Craig Shelton

We've pretty much gotten all the feedback necessary on the Super Bowl this past weekend up in Dallas. You've heard it all by now from the weather conditions to the lack of quality in the quanity of strippers. Then there was the blunders with logistics for party and event seekers. Call me a football snob, but all I gave a damn about all week was the pending game to be played on the field inside Jerry World.
As we true football fans settle in to the cold reality that the 2010-2011 NFL season is now done, I felt it appropiate to get a final take from the guys around town that give us our sports talk entertainment on a daily basis. By the way, in case you're wondering what my pregame Super Bowl prediction was, here it is: I had the Steelers 24 Packers 17

Marcus's Super Bowl take:
The game went as I had envisioned it, especially in the first half. Green Bay was able to exploit the Steelers pass defense and defensively for Green Bay because they were able to to match up. It allowed Dom Capers to send different pressures and be exotic with blitzes. The game was very good. Aaron Rodgers deserved the MVP. He has been phenomenal the entire post season.

Max's take on the Super Bowl:
Hats off to GB for their flawless execution of their game plan. Despite a fair number of dropped passes, they stayed away from the turnovers that kill you in big games. Conversely, the Steelers with three turnovers that led to three Packers scores, continued to shoot themselves in the foot. Even with a great defense like the Steelers you can't expect them to throw a shut out. GB showed their championship mettle by making plays, despite a series of key injuries to key players like D. Driver and C. Woodson.

Lopez's take on the Super Bowl:
An Epic Fail in every way for Jerry Jones, other than the game itself. Aaron Rodgers reached another level. Dom Capers will go down as one of the league's greatest D.C.'s in history...that's it in 30 words of less, I'll have more in my blog.

Jerome's take on the Super Bowl:
You didn't have to be psychic to know the game would come down to turnovers, but you had to be psychic to forecast the disappearance of Polamalu.

Matt's take on the Super Bowl:
With all of the troubles Dallas had with the game (weather, seats, everything spread out in the metroplex), the game lived up to expectations. I had no rooting interest in the game but I did pick
Green Bay to win. Mark down February 6th as the final day Aaron Rodgers has to hear about comparisons to Brett Favre. They're now even in bringing titles to "Titletown."

Lance's Super Bowl take:
The Green Bay Packers did a great job of recognizing the Steelers' strengths and weaknesses and they attacked accordingly. The Packers knew they weren't going to be able to set their offense up with the running game, so instead they attacked the Steelers' secondary with their passing attack and, more importantly, with their formations. The Packers knew that if they kept three and four wide receivers on the field at all times, the Steelers would be forced into leaving an extra cornerback on the field and they would be forced into keeping Troy Polamalu out of the box and back deeper in coverage.

Charlie's take on the Super Bowl:
The better team and the better QB won. Steelers were quite fortunate to even get a last shot given their three turnovers to GB's none.
I missed Polamalu's effective immediately retirement announcement at some point during the lead up to the game.

John's take on the Super Bowl:
Rodgers continued his outstanding performance in the playoffs by converting downfield on third down. Packers didn't commit a turnover, but capitalized on three. Lombardi Trophy returns to Titletown.

MARC VANDERMEER is the voice of the Houston Texans and co-host of the Sports Radio 610 morning show airing weekdays on KILT.
Marc's take on the Texans:
Ben Roethlisberger was banged up and clearly off his game. Super Bowl teams that throw a 'pick 6' are 0-11. He had the ball and game in his hands with two minutes to go down six and misfired his way into a loss. The Mendenhall fumble was huge as the team was driving with a second-and-two and down by four. Despite the three turnovers, Pittsburgh had plenty of chances. Credit Aaron Rodgers for avoiding turnovers and overcoming his recievers' drops to make enough plays to win. Overall I give the game a B plus. Not one of the best, but we've seen a lot worse.
Other stuff: the seat fiasco is inexcusable. It's not like the Super Bowl suddenly popped up on the calendar and caught everyone by surprise. There was plenty of time to get their act together and they failed to do so. The weather during hype week was not anyone's fault, but Dallas responded poorly. Streets remained unsalted and unsanded for days after Tuesday's storm. Businesses lost millions of potential dollars. The local cab drivers were on strike. Several stadium entrances were closed because of an ice threat. The ice arrived Tuesday, workers were injured Friday. I'm no expert but there had to be a way to de-ice the stadium before Sunday. Overall, the Metroplex gets a D-plus.

ADAM WEXLER AKA "WEX" is the co-host of the Sports Talk 790 morning show weekdays 6a-10a. Wex is as sharp and detailed a talk host as they come. Wex is a former member of the Houston Rockets radio broadcast team.
Wex's take on the Super Bowl:
I'll stick to the game and leave the botched anthem, the ice/snow storm and the seat/ticket issue for another day. Super Bowl XLV was a highly competitive game with a bunch of playmakers making plays. Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews, Greg Jennings and several more of their best players all either played great or made great plays.
Had the Steelers not scored late in the first half and then made a game of it in the second half, we could've been headed for Super Bowl disaster. But the Steelers are a great team that is exceptionally well coached by Mike Tomlin in my opinion. They have way too many leaders to let that happen and they didn't.
I think Aaron Rodgers is the next great thing and I'm down for betting that he and the Packers win at least one more Super Bowl - I sure hope he doesn't suffer any more concussions.
The game had me interested all the way into the final minute - that's one of the biggest things I want. I don't want to know who is going to win the game until the late stages. The only thing it was really missing was the sensational highlight that gets replayed over and over again, like Santonio Holmes game-winning TD catch in '08 or James Harrison's INT return from the same game or David Tyree's helmet catch.
Maybe it'll be the type of game that shows the NFL owners and the NFLPA that they cannot let this contract dispute turn the fans off in any way. They may be banking on the fact that nothing will turn NFL fans off, and they could be right.

Jimmy's take on the Super Bowl:
Going into the game, there were three things I thought would decide the game. First, I knew the Steelers' secondary would have a huge problem with the Packers' receivers. For years, Pittsburgh has been able to survive on average cornerback play because of the pressure they put on quarterbacks and allowing Troy Polomalu to play center field. However, with the spread offense of the Packers, he would would actually have to cover a back, slot receiver, or tight end, something he's not comfortable with. Pittsburgh only played two teams this year that spread the field, New Orleans and New England, and they lost both games. I knew the Packers would really put them in situations that they didn't want to be in. It's the same reason why the Super Bowl against Arizona was as close as it was.
Second, I thought the Packers would have an edge in special teams, especially at the kicker position. Mason Crosby has a huge leg and even though he had a bad year, I'd trust him over Shawn Suisham any day. If Suisham hadn't missed the relatively easy field goal that he did, that might have been a different game altogether.
Lastly, for the most part, I thought that the coaching staffs were pretty well matched except for the offensive playcallers. Mike McCarthy has developed into a great offensive mind, and it showed tonight. Even though he didn't really give the running game as much of a chance as he should have, he put the offense in a position to succeed, and if it weren't for all the drops, the game wouldn't have been as close as it was. As for Pittsburgh, Bruce Arians always has a hard time making adjustments and altering the game plan. Even the average NFL fan could tell that the Steelers could run the ball on the Packers, but he didn't stick with it. I thought for sure the Packers were in trouble when Pittsburgh made it 21-17 after a 50-yard scoring drive that consisted of five straight runs, but he abandoned it for some reason.
There were two things that I didn't expect that had a huge role in the game.
Aaron Rodgers was a much better quarterback than Ben Roethlisberger. While everyone thought that Rodgers would struggle with his emotions in his first Super Bowl, it was clearly not the case. As a matter of fact, Roethlisberger seemed to be rattled from the start, and he made a lot of bad throws. He looked like he was trying to force the ball into openings that simply weren't there. On the other hand, Rodgers was in total command of the offense, and even when the Steelers got close, he didn't panic at all. The way he played tonight, and please don't think I'm saying he's as good as Joe Montana, but he reminded me of him - as cool as cool can be.
In addition, and I'd never thought I'd say this, but the Packers were much better in the coaching department. Offensively, but defensively, Dick LeBeau was out-coached by Dom Capers. Don't get me wrong, I've always thought that Capers was a great defensive coordinator. However, LeBeau is one of the best of all time, and if you give him two weeks to prepare for anyone, he'll win that battle nine times out of ten. Instead, it was Capers who seemed to be one step ahead of the Steelers offense the entire game. Even after losing Charles Woodson, and with Sam Shields and Nick Collins playing hurt, the defense still didn't allow the Steelers to do what they wanted.
The Packers reminded me a lot of last year's Saints. They put so much pressure on teams offensively that they can afford to take chances on defense, which is exactly what they did tonight.

Richard's take on the Super Bowl:
This game was a tribute to great decisions--Sparks, Matthews, Williams, Shields--and a great quarterback. It feels right to have the Lombardi Trophy in Green Bay.

Nuno's take on the Super Bowl:
The game was a microcosm of the Packers' season. They started off with all the momentum and hype, they have a blip on the road midway, and they closed it out like a champion.
