THE HOUSTON TEXANS' BIGGEST ENEMY? - CRAIG SHELTON - DECEMBER 2, 2010

THE HOUSTON TEXANS' BIGGEST ENEMY?

If I were to ask you, who in your opinion do you deem as the Houston Texans' biggest enemy, what would be your answer?

The Tennessee Titans? How about the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning? Or maybe you would identify the I-45 North villains and their yellow teeth brandishing owner, Jerry Jones, and his Dallas Cowboys as Texans' villain number one? If any of those would be your choice, I would say to you that have a very credible argument with any of those choices.

If you look back at the inception of the Houston Texans' franchise, it's an easy argument to make for most that the Texans started off on the proverbial "wrong foot" (no Yao Ming pun intended, that's another blog) by drafting David "The Glove" Carr over Julius Peppers. To further impact the argument, some suggest that after the Texans GM at the time, Charlie Casserly, and defensive-minded head coach, Dom Capers, drafted "The Glove", the Texans furthered their self-inflicted brain farts by NOT hiring a quarterback coach for the rookie signal caller and the franchise's initial NFL draft pick. Smart? NO!!!!!!

DUMBING IT DOWN!

How do we define who our enemies or rivals are? Is it by how much we feel total disdain for the individual? For instance, I find Dylan Gwinn of Sports Talk 790 and the weirdo-freak Josh Innes of Sports Radio 610 as individuals that the moment they open their traps, I want to defecate in my pants and then just sit there till the short bus comes for me. That said, I don't consider either Gwinn or Innes as enemies. I say that primarily because I understand both Innes and Gwinn to be cowards and I get no thrill in a win over "clippers" (if you get my drift?).

For me folks, our biggest rivals in life are the opposition that poses some threat to some critical area of our lives or life endeavors. So when you think about it in those terms, who poses the biggest roadblock in the Texans' pursuit of whatever as a franchise they're chasing? A huge part of the equation of determining a diagnosis of what the Texans' biggest enemy is working against the franchise's pursuit of success (aka winning a Super Bowl).

THE ULTIMATE MEASUREABLE?

The only measuring barometer that any professional franchise should ever be measured by is winning championships. Winning championships is the vital artery that filters away all of the trash and pumps clean blood into all associated vessels of a successful NFL franchise, as well as in any other professional sports franchise. The championship bone is connected to the lucrative sponsorship agreement bone. The championship bone is connected to the team jersey sales bone. The championship bone is connected to the PSL waiting list bone. And yes, yes, yes Texans fans, the championship bone is also connected to the TV deal money bone aka the spine.

So what is it folks? Who is this unidentifiable foe that the Texans can't seem to get out of their hair? Is he/she a ninja with the gift of transparency or a super hero that can simply fly away whenever we attempt to photograph him to prove he/she exists? Where does this deadly franchise foe reside? Does he live in the projects or the suburbs? Maybe he's a closet Republican living in the North Pole down the block from the Clauses in his parents' basement with former Governor Palin posters lining his frozen walls? Maybe the Texans' biggest enemy isn't made of mortal flesh and is the enemy of divine football empowerment and is of supernatural origin?

Or perhaps the Texans' biggest enemy standing in the way of sustained success as an NFL franchise is this guy?
