AND THEN THERE WERE TWENTY; EIGHT TEAMS ELIMINATED:

The Crier’s playoff elimination tournament started this week with 28 teams and Alabama and Oregon in the lead to meet in the Crier’s version of the BCS Championship Game.

However, the field going into Week #2 is down to twenty teams as eight teams were eliminated, including #1 Alabama, which lost to South Carolina. According to tournament rules, Alabama and the other seven losers this week are out of the hunt no matter how well they play the remainder of the season.

As mentioned previously, the purpose of these rankings is to determine the top two teams standing as of December 4. Hopefully, the BCS people will have the same two teams as "The Crier" for their championship game when all is said and done.

The teams eliminated in Week 1 besides #1 Alabama, were Florida (#4), Arizona (#9), Miami FL (#10), Michigan (#19), Northwestern (#26), Kansas State (#27), and Baylor (#28).

Below are the results of this past week:

Included in the above games, were five head-to-head matchups of teams in the tournament, which were written up in a previous post. The Crier was 3-2 both SU and ATS in those games, which were for reading purposes only.

On Tuesday, the revised rankings will be posted along with write-ups on next week’s two head-to-head matchups (Ohio State at Wisconsin and Arkansas at Auburn).
