CRIER'S CORNER - THE CRIER’S BCS ELIMINATION TOURNAMENT - THE CRIER AND THE SR CREW - OCTOBER 12, 2010

THE CRIER’S BCS ELIMINATION TOURNAMENT

Written by: The Crier and the SR Crew
Date posted: 10/6/2010

Week #1 saw eight (8) teams get eliminated from the tournament, the purpose of which is to determine who the top  two teams standing as of December 4 will be. Hopefully, the BCS people will have the same two teams as "The Crier" for their championship game when all is said and done.

Right now, there are 20 teams left in the hunt with Oregon and TCU currently 1-2 in the lead. Boise State trails TCU by a very small margin due to the fact that they have only played five games vs. TCU's six games. Obviously, many of these teams listed below are pretenders. The pretenders will be eliminated in the coming weeks in elimination games, as will some of the more legitimate claimants to the BCS throne.

Below are the rankings as of today, as well as this week’s schedule of games for the suitors to the BCS throne. There are two head-on elimination games this week, which are written about below.

Rank – Team – Record – This Week’s Game

1 Oregon 6-0 DNP
2 TCU 6-0 vs. BYU
3 Boise State 5-0 at San Jose State
4 Stanford 5-1 DNP
5 LSU 6-0 vs. McNeese State
6 Nebraska 5-0 vs. Texas
7 Florida State 5-1 vs. Boston College
8 Oklahoma 5-0 vs. Iowa State
9 South Carolina 4-1 at Kentucky
10 Ohio State 6-0 at Wisconsin
11 Missouri 5-0 at Texas A&M
12 Auburn 6-0 vs. Arkansas
13 Michigan State 6-0 vs. Illinois
14 Iowa 4-1 at Michigan
15 NC State 5-1 at East Carolina State
16 Utah 5-0 at Wyoming
17 Arkansas 4-1 at Auburn
18 Wisconsin 5-1 vs. Ohio State
19 West Virginia 4-1 vs. South Florida
20 Oklahoma State 5-0 at Texas Tech

When any of these "tournament" teams lose, that team is automatically eliminated, so there is no margin for error for anybody. The Crier will show no mercy from this point on.

Good luck to all the remaining entrants in the Crier’s BCS Elimination Tournament. May the best two teams come out on top.

THIS WEEK'S HEAD-TO-HEAD ELIMINATION GAMES (FOR READING PURPOSES ONLY):

There are two head-to-head elimination games this week. Last week, there were five such games, which went 3-2 SU and 3-2 ATS (for reading purposes only).

SATURDAY'S GAMES

OHIO STATE at WISCONSIN*
The running game fuels both teams, but neither will be able to simply line up and drive the ball down the other team’s throat. Wisconsin gives up just 3.6 yards per carry and the Buckeyes are more stout at 2.8 yards per tote. Gonna have to make plays in the passing game, where OSU has two definitive edges – (1) their secondary is better; and (2) they have a QB in Pryor who can extend drives with his feet. OHIO STATE, 27-20.

ARKANSAS at AUBURN*
Both teams here lean heavily on their QBs to move the football, but historically, Arkansas QB Mallett has been far less effective on the road. Plus – Tiger QB Newton gives you the run/pass option and he’ll be able to slow the pressure-seeking Hogs' defense given his ability to run the ball. AUBURN, 33-30.
