Instead of listening to Brad Davies ask Bum Phillips about his "sausage", I decided to take my talents to WFAN THE FAN to see what Anita Marks and Roby were doing on their pre game show.
Coughlinspeaks of the Texans Offense, great running scheme, Foster is a one cut runner. Speaks on the capabilities of all Texans running. Foster is the type of runner if you are out of a gap he will exploit. Leach is one of the greater full black blockers in the league. There are doing the exact same offense as he goes on to studder and say they almost run it better than Mike Shanahan. Antonio Smith is very good inside. In the spring of the year they do the studying of all of their opponents and Cushing was definitely a part of their studies.
This was typical coach speech which praises the opponent but it did feel good to hear Coach Coughlin reiterate some of the same things I have heard locally.
The guys are replaying the last time the Giants and Texans played with Tiki Barber still on the team. Tiki carried the ball down to the 3 yard line with Houston leading. Eli faked the ball to Jacobs who was crushed but on the keeper Eli wins the game with a pass to Shockey.
The WFAN is speaking with Marc Vandermeer about the game as Marc talks about Mario and and Andre playing in addition to questions about Cushing. Marc tells them that Cush went back to his native Jersey area and challenged them to go look at his workout. Anita asked Marc if he thinks Derick Ward will be anxious to play his former team. Marc said he has a rib injury that he's nursing and we shall see how much the injury will effect him.
Mike Garaffalo tweeted that Sage Rosenfels is going to hold the bold for Tines. With Sage holding in pregame Tines hit for 54 yards. Brandon Jacobs is an interesting case; he Jacobs ran effectively and he looked good against the Colts but the one thing that struck him is Jacobs TD dance was not as elaborate and he wonders how much his controversy effected him. With Keith Bullock out with turf toe they want to know how Graham is going to be able to handle the Texans running game. Graham lost his job because he didn't attack the line in the preseason.
Radio dude (Bob) pretty much sum up the MLB Playoffs while notating that this is the 9 straight Yankee playoff win over the Twins and the Twins 12th consecutive playoff loss. The Yankees are waiting and resting for the winner of Rangers v Rays.
Bob and Carl Banks in Reliant Stadium
Intriguing match up two teams that want to run the ball. How does the giants slow down this Texans offense. Carl say its all gap control. Notated that Houston loves to run the naked bootleg, Carl said it's all on the DEs being discipline. Carl says although the Texans have a weak secondary it's important for the Giants not to open the passing game up to soon because you also open up your QB.
I agree with Carl on exploiting our passing deficiencies however we don't have a 100% Mario and it may bite us. I am not understanding this phrase "slow down the Texans Offense". I do understand we have scored over 30 in the majority of our games but when I actually see the games it don't seem as if the Texans are really high caliber in terms of offense.
HIGHLIGHT OF GIANTS SEASON
10 SACKS

TAKE SOME CALLS
Fort Lea - Tommy - Giant fan for a long have not missed a game since 1981. He is calling for the Giants to open up the field and use Bradshaw in more ways.
Rolin is built on Running and they are still building their identity. He realize alot of Giants are stuck with the smash mouth run but back in the old days there were only 7 in the box and the safety played way back. Use your weapons. If your running game is OK you run if you pass you pass.
LOL they only took one call, I was getting excited expecting to hear some fans but oh well they are off to the keys of the game.
KEYS OF THE GAME brought to you by HURTZ
Rolin
- Create balance offensively
- Find a way to get to the QB
- Stop Arian Foster
Anita
- Stop Arian Foster
- Attack in the Air
- Special Teams
This is my first time listening to an opponent's pre game show and it was interesting. The show in my opinion and what I am accustomed to had way too many breaks. Every time a subject got going it felt as if the station went to break. One thing I noticed, in the majority of the breaks, there was a NY GIANT involved in a commercial. I thought their keys to the game were pretty general and to be expected with the exception of the Special Teams. Anita seem to believe Rosenfels holding for Lawrence Tines will net some positive results. I can vaguely remember Rosenfels being involved in a special teams play for Houston where he was injured, I believe his thumb. The call volume from the audience was simply pathetic, it was almost laughable. I cannot tell you how many times I heard the phrase "10 sacks". I am very interested to see how many sacks they will net at 3pm. Roman is spot on with his analysis of the Giants not airing the ball out right away. Soft up the Texans defense with some running and as soon as they get comfy with the run, balance it with some passing. Not once did I hear anyone speak of Coughlin's job being in jeopardy which is odd because back home we hear it quite often in regards to Kubiak and we are always told that the New York, Philly, east coast media is calling for heads to roll after 1 loss. Of course I am not being serious after 1 loss but we are told that the "east coast media" is calling for Coughlin to be replaced, maybe this is not the medium where you call for a replacement for a coach but it had to be noted that I didn't hear it.
I was going to chart Hollywood 610 which sounded festive, happy and jovial but once I heard Bum Phillips talk about the amount of the fans that came out for a loss, I simply couldn't stomach it. I don't want to be a negative person but "we got beat". There is no celebration in getting beat. I wonder as Nick Saban was running off the field in Columbus, South Carolina the media asking Saban, although you lost your fans really traveled well, how do you feel coach. That kick the door down story only feels good to me if the Oilers came back the next year and kicked the Steelers ass. It's almost like 35-3 Buffalo, there is nothing about that sickness I want to revisit.
This game is reminding me of the Texan's position v the Raiders. The Texans basically beat the Radiers with a shell of a team do to injuries. This week the Giants are riddled with injuries and they still seem to have a legitimate chance to beat the Texans.
