IT'S ALL POLITICS: I WANT TO PUKE - LM

3-21-2011

Over the weekend I have been paying close to attention to the situation in Libya (US missile strikes).  Without getting political, it appears a segment of Libya's citizens revolted against long time leader Muammar Gaddafi.  If you don't know Gaddafi has been a thorn in America's side since 1986 with the "Disco Bombings" which killed two American soldiers and again with the Pan Am flight.  After the Berlin Disco Bombing, President Ronald Reagan launched missiles into Gaddafi's tent.  This could prove to be a mistake by Ronald Reagan for trying to kill someone and yet leaving them in power.  It is also believed that Gaddafi possess Chemical Weapons.

There we have it, Gaddafi has a questionable past in the eyes of America but he is not going without a fight as he pushes back against the revolutionaries and threatens to lob missiles at targets along the Mediterranean.

America's Involvement

Saturday, President Obama basically said we are heading up the effort to implement the "No Fly Zone" and we dropped a little over a 100 missiles on Libya.  Our main objective is to protect the citizens of Libya and we will not supply any ground troops.

Let me begin by saying, I don't have any problem with the decision.  I honestly felt President Obama was backed into a corner with the "non action" in Egypt and late reaction in Libya, he had to react now that Yemen and Bahrain are also "revolting".  I feel other Middle Eastern countries are looking at the reaction of America which will eventually cause more countries to revolt.  Although alot of these countries are under the rule of dictatorships, we don't need a more unstable Middle East.  If I'm complaining about gasoline @ $3.45 a gallon, imagine my mouth @ $5.00 a gallon.  In other words, they don't have to give me the humanitarian rhetoric, just tell me we don't want this to get out of hand.

HERE COMES THE POLITICS

As I was thinking about everything that has transpired, I begin to think "This sounds strangely familiar".  Below are two excerpts from two different presidents declaring military action I grabbed from www.hotairpundit.com

Obama closed Friday's remarks by saying, "I've taken this decision with the confidence that action is necessary, and that we will not be acting alone. Our goal is focused. Our cause is just. And our coalition is strong."

Nearly a decade earlier, when President George W. Bush announced that U.S. forces were launching military strikes in Afghanistan, Bush said: "To all the men and women in our military ... I say this: Your mission is defined. Your objectives are clear. Your goal is just." Bush used similar wording in other remarks at the time.

Also on Friday, Obama said, "The United States did not seek this outcome. Our decisions have been driven by Qaddafi's refusal to respect the rights of his people and the potential for mass murder of innocent civilians."

On Oct. 7, 2001, Bush said of operations in Afghanistan, "We did not ask for this mission, but we will fulfill it. ... We defend not only our precious freedoms, but also the freedom of people everywhere to live and raise their children free from fear."

WRAP IT UP

Most political media pundits are going a totally different direction than where I'm taking it.  The media is to say President Obama's speech was a "knock off" of President Bush however I am pointing out to people how all of this gibberish is politics.  There is no outrage about President Obama hitting Libya?  Actually this could prove to be a brilliant move by the Obama administration if you think about.  Everyone knows that the Republican Party is not going to talk negative about military action and Obama's base although mad will not say a word unless it goes "SOUTH".  I am just baffled that I don't see the massive outrage of hitting another country that didn't physically harm you.

People it's simple, it's all politics.  All in all, I can careless who's the President in power as long as we are together in "ANY" military campaign.  We don't need descent amongst our politicians when our boys are hunkered down in a sand ridden blind crying as he or she tries to brush off the tears from the paper as they are writing home telling their family, I am not sure if I am going to see you again.
