MOST INTERACTIVE RADIO STATIONS IN HOUSTON - LM





In the age of Social Media, it's very surprising how stations are refusing to use it to their benefit, however there are stations who are capitalizing on the trend.  In 2011, there are five primary means of communication: phone, email, text, Facebook, and Twitter.

It took me a while to learn; callers, e mailers and texts to shows make up a small percentage of the overall audience (at most 1 to 2 percent) therefore these stations are really doing their fans a "solid".  My hat is off to personalities that actually prep for a show and have a direction they want to pursue but you can't neglect your fans.    




Of the local stations I currently listen to, the BOXX is the most interactive on the FM side and it didn't help with that sick ass freestyle @kiotti laid Thursday 3/17/2011.  REAL TALK:  THE BOXX has taken the Twitter Tweets/ReTweets to a different level.   I really wouldn't be surprise if the BOXX hired additional staff for Spring Break but this is the brilliance of the station's promotion department to recognize it's Spring Break therefore "we gonna capitalize on the interaction".  Let's be real, THE BOXX is Houston and HMW is observing how they communicate with their fans.  The BOXX is taking calls, emails, texts, Tweeting, and hosting events.  In Baseball terms, The BOXX is a "5 Tooler".

The BOXX are Retweeting Fools.  Unlike some who simply use Twitter as  a marketing tool (yea I know this is also a form of marketing) but these guys are interacting with their fans/audience.  It's one thing if they simply created a position at the BOXX named "THE RETWEETER" but these bastards created another position "Edit, then ReTweeter".  This means they aren't simply clicking a Retweet button but they are actually reading and then adding their own commentary.  The BOXX is the standard of how you suppose to seize upon this social media thing.  #DoYoThang



On the AM side, no one can compete with 1560 AM THE GAME when it comes to Social Media Interaction.   1560 The Game is going to interact with you period.  We all understand in the sports talk arena, 1560 is the "youngest station" therefore they are utilizing every resource available to them and that's cool but it can be also bad.  Hands down when it comes to Sports Talk Radio, 1560 THE GAME is the most interactive station.

I am not sure what @johngranato orientation plan is upon the hiring a new personality but someone is definitely telling them, "we will not ignore our fans in no forum". At any given point you will see @LanceZierlein talking to any number of fans.  To put this in perspective, Lance has over 5,000 followers and he is taking the time to reply.   Then you have @The_Raheel who is constantly tweeting and "busting ass" during show and "off air".  You not only going to get sports from @The_Raheel  but Hip/Hop & entertainment.  Of course I can't miss my "DAWG" @davidnuno .  David Nuno is probably the best kept secret @1560TheGame .  In the infancy of HMW, David made comments about "never feeling like a minority" and I "went in" on him but I learned he was a cool guy.  We are not best friends or anything but I had to understand everyone situation is the not the same.  Enough of the lovey dubby, @davidnuno or shall I say "MR NATIONAL" will reply to tweets in a timely fashion.  Hint to the @davidnuno fans, talk HIP HOP, he loves it.

If you think the guys mention above are twitterholics, let me introduce you to Twitter Rodgers and Twitter Pendergrast.  They socialize so much, in my opinion it effects their show but I can't knock them boys for acknowledging their fans/audience.

 
Back to the positives, 1560 AM has seized upon this Social Networking game by having all of their followers to append a special avatar to their profile pic.  #awesome.  I can't mess with the braniacs in Bellaire, TX.  Of course HMW can't append this logo to our pic because we suppose to be objective and shid but ummm HMW does not play by industry "Best Practices" therefore we might get me one, skurrrrrrrrrrr "nah we chillin".  Lets see how long before another station still this idea!!!  I didn't even mention their chat room #LATE

WRAP IT UP 


I look at interacting "in show" similar to dunking "in game".  It's one thing to be in a Dunk contest with no opposing force outside of your own physical ability, it's a total different story when the bullets are flying in a game and you NUTTS someone.  That's how I feel about personalities who can talk and interact with their fans at the same time.  




Although 1560 AM is the King of Interaction on the AM side, I must say 790 AM is no slouch, they "get it in".  It amazes me the ability of @awexler & @mj4sports to reply to emails, text, twitter and facebook posts.  @sportsmt has an hourly segment dedicated just to reading emails.  The reason, 790 falls below 1560, half of 790's team is good at interacting whereas 1560 is indoctrinated in interaction from the Program Director to the janitor.


Hopefully in the future other stations will learn to get on the social media train.
