THE CRIER’S BCS ELIMINATION TOURNAMENT - THE CRIER - OCTOBER 26, 2010

THE CRIER’S BCS ELIMINATION TOURNAMENT

Written by: The Crier
Date posted: 10/26/2010

Going into Week #4, the Crier’s playoff elimination tournament is now down to ten teams from the original 28 teams with Oregon and Missouri currently in the lead to meet in the Crier’s version of the BCS Championship Game.

For the eighteen teams that have already been eliminated, according to tournament rules, they are out of the hunt no matter how well they play the remainder of the season.

As mentioned previously, the purpose of these rankings is to determine the top two teams standing as of December 4. Hopefully, the BCS people will have the same two teams as "The Crier" for their championship game when all is said and done.

Below is this week’s rankings and the various teams' opponents (every team plays this week except #10 Wisconsin):

Rank – Team – Record – This Week’s Opponent

1 Oregon (7-0) at USC
2 Missouri (7-0) at Nebraska
3 TCU (8-0) at UNLV
4 Boise State (6-0) vs. Louisiana Tech
5 Auburn (8-0) at Mississippi
6 Stanford (6-1) at Washington
7 Florida State (6-1) at North Carolina State
8 Michigan State (8-0) at Iowa
9 Utah (7-0) at Air Force
10 Wisconsin (7-1) DNP

Last week, the Crier was 1-2 SU and 2-1 ATS in head-to-head match-ups and is now 5-5 SU and 6-4 ATS on a cumulative basis for reading purposes only.

There are no head-to-head match-ups of the teams remaining in the tournament this week.

TONIGHT’S NBA GAMES - 10/26 (FROM SR CREW)

BOSTON* (Pick ‘em) over MIAMI
Say one thing for David Stern, he knows how to get to the bottom line as the season opens with a potential Eastern Conference Final preview. Celts added 3 key players in Jermaine O’Neill, Shaq, and Delonte West, who will be suspended the first 10 games for gun charges. When he returns, West adds toughness and the no-fear ability to take a big shot. Everybody knows about the Miami three of LeBron, D. Wade, and Bosh, but they added fire power too with sharpshooters Eddie House and Mike Miller, but Miller had surgery and is out till January. The feeling is the Heat will miss the conditioning of D. Wade, who missed all but the first couple of minutes of the preseason. Very hard to see him able to play anywhere near 100% with zero exhibitions under his belt. BOSTON, 99-93

PHOENIX (+7.5) over PORTLAND*
Take the Suns and the points here. Blazers, despite bring crushed by injury last year, won a ton of games. New season, same problems. Greg Oden is still out, as is Joel Pryzbilla, so Marcus Camby anchors them in the middle. Distractions have already set in with an unhappy Rudy Fernandez and that eventually may leave scars. The key for them tonight and for the season will be if LaMarcus Aldridge can utilize his All-Star talent. The Suns do it without their best big man as Amar’e moved on to New York, so the look will be different and the spot up shooters will have to get their shots a different way. Goran Dragic will give Steve Nash plenty of help at the point, but they will look for Hedo Turkoglu to not only score in bunches but to defend 94 feet. Suns kick off season on right note. PORTLAND, 99-98

HOUSTON (+7.5) over L.A. LAKERS*
Go with Houston and the points here. Several things against homers right off the bat. They will have to avoid the distraction of the championship ring ceremony and they will have to get by in all likelihood without Kobe at 100%. Center Bynum is also likely to miss a couple of weeks. Homers got better in the off season with Matt Barnes, another great wing defender, Steve Blake, and the block machine, Theo Ratliff, but L.A. also was a poor ATS team last year clicking at 46-57-2. Houston has it’s own problems with an iffy Yao Ming, but they addressed that situation with Brad Miller. The Rockets are a guard-oriented team anyway with potential 20 ppg guys in Kevin Martin and Aaron Brooks. Luis Scola is the key. He is coming off a fine international summer playing for native land and will be asked for more production this year. LOS ANGELES, 99-98
