"PRAISE YOLANDA ADAMS!"

Yolanda Adams of FM 92. 1 Praise has had a remarkable career of service in the gospel music industry and as the morning show host of "The Yolanda Adams Morning Show".

Adams is a super-talented native Houstonian that's revered in the gospel music industry as one of, if not the brightest talent in the business. I can recall being at a Houston Rocket basketball game at Toyota Center on African-American Heritage Night and Yolanda straight rocked it on that night!

THE REASONS THAT WE'RE HERE?

I woke up this morning really in need of some piece-of-mind after a week of personally challenging family issues. I began to think about the term "service" and how it applies to music and talk radio formats. For instance, the leading sports talk radio station in Houston clearly has poor talent in regards to knowledgeable sports talk hosts. That's a common theme throughout the sports talk radio format. There are a few talented, knowledgeable, sports talk radio hosts, but the fact that I indicated that there are only a "few" knowledgeable sports talk radio hosts, is an issue within itself.

What "service" does 97.9 The Box offer? What circumstance of need would cause you to tune into 97.9 The Box morning show? Is it the music or the funny Jimbo bits. Or perhaps it's the annoying antics of J Mac or maybe the cool daily topics Madd Hatta tosses out to the listeners? What meaningful "service" does 97.9 The Box provide to you?

"The Tom Joyner Morning Show" has been a morning drive-time staple for over a decade and has made significant contributions to social awareness among the African-American community. On the "b" side of the Tom Joyner Morning Show, appears to have become a self-entertainment platform in recent years. All too often on Joyner's show, you get a ton of giggling and laughter among Joyner and his co-host, that's not very funny or relevant to their topic.

PRAISE GETS IT!

The Yolanda Adams morning show has it perks & tweaks to make a gospel-based show entertaining with comedic bits and commentary. Adams consistently maintains the appropriate demeanor on air that counters the show bits in a subtle fashion, allowing the show to maintain its overall mood of uplifting spirits. The one component that I would certainly be remiss in not mentioning is the gospel music featured on Ms. Adams' show. The depth of the music's impact on the show's listeners is immeasurable to say the least.

One of the best lessons I take away from listening to the Yolanda Adams morning show is that it's completely possible to conduct a professionally run morning show in a challenging format without downgrading to tabloid-like antics to funnel listeners in.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The thing I would love to hear a bit more of on the Yolanda Adams morning show is more meaningfull dialogue between Adams and callers on relevant social and economical issues and how faith-based solutions should be applied. I would also appreciate Adams' commentary on issues within the entertainment industry to open up dialogue between her and the show's listeners regarding how faith-based solutions helped Adams navigate the industry so well for so long.

I believe 92.1 may be selling itself a bit short in regard to listener interactiveness. I believe a social networking community as well as increased community events would increase the impact of an already impactful morning-show production.
