NCAA MOCK TOURNEY FIELD
It was mentioned here that it was a waste of time and money, but since sports fans are accustomed to that, for informational purposes, below is the mock seeding to waste some more of your time.
As mentioned here previously, a group of 20 media members and conference officials, moderated by NCAA tourney director, Greg Shaheen, spent 10 hours on February 17 and another four on February 18 appraising all the tourney candidates.
Among the willing participants were CBS and SI.com’s Seth Davis, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, Colonial Athletic Association deputy commissioner Ron Bertovich (a former Atlantic 10 commissioner), Sports Illustrated’s Andy Glockner, the Houston Chronicle’s Jeffrey Martin, Conference USA’s Chris Woolard, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s Ken Taylor, CBS Sports’ Steve Scheer, the Big East Conference’s Tom Odjakjian, the Big Ten Network’s Mike Hall, the Dallas Morning News’ Kate Hairopoulos, Yahoo Sports’ Jason King and HoopsReport.com’s Ryan Feldman.
In this mock seeding, the First Four at-large teams that will play at the University of Dayton (OH) Arena would be Georgia, Butler, Florida State, and Gonzaga (#41-44). The last four seeds going to Dayton would be Texas Southern, Buffalo, Maine, and Northwestern State (#65-68).
Here’s the breakdown of the field, seeded 1 through 68 (predicted conference tourney winners in all CAPS):
1. Ohio State
2. TEXAS
3. Pittsburgh
4. Kansas
5. Duke
6. BYU

As mentioned above, the consensus conference tourney winners (30 of them - Ivy League has no tourney) are in CAPS. I am real curious how these consensus tourney winners will compare to the actual tourney winners. The Crier is lucky if he can predict one-half of the conference tourney winners, so how will these folks or quasi-experts do.
After Selection Sunday, the Peanut Gallery will reprint the above list and compare it to the actual seedings. Stay tuned!
